I forget how I first found Piper, better known as @airportk9 on Instagram, but I remember looking through his images, and thinking what an amazing life he leads. For those who haven’t heard about him yet, he’s a wildlife control canine at the Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City, MI. If you want to see some really cool photos and videos in the day of the life, you should give him a follow!

I usually make a trip up north each year, because I feel like it’s mandatory if you live in Michigan. Brian, his human, saw that I was going to be in the area, and we set up a date to photograph Piper. Although their work is both a really big part of their lives, Brian wanted to focus more on capturing images of the life they share when they’re not at work.

I have to say, being able to witness the bond that they share–how in tune they were with each other on a non-verbal level, and the love and devotion that they had for one another (you can see it in their eyes)–was truly amazing. I feel truly honored to have been able to work with them both.

Our photoshoot took place at their favorite secret beach spot off of Lake Michigan, and we spent the session capturing Piper in his other element. I don’t think we could have asked for a more perfect evening with such beautiful lighting.

Thanks so much for a beautiful session, Brian! It was so wonderful to finally meet you both. I hope you love your images as much as I do. <3
